“Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. The sitter is merely the accident, the occasion. It is not he who is revealed by the painter; it is rather the painter who, on the coloured canvas, reveals himself.”

Update the Tisbert Sketch Comedy logo to feel more handmade and quirky.

The president of CMU’s sketch comedy troupe, Tisbert, and I had a series of meetings at the beginning of 2021. They wanted a new logo that felt more handmade and almost crude, but they also wanted to keep their classic pink color and question mark iconography.
I sent over a few different thumbnail concepts, and they chose a ransom note-style idea. They also decided that they wanted the question mark to replace the “i”, rather than being before, after, or otherwise connected to the word “tisbert”.
We then spent some time deciding exactly which letter would be in which style, after which I finalized plenty of versions and color variations.

This was one of the first branding projects I did for a real client. It helped me to establish my client process and learn to turn client feedback into actual changes.
